ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan's relentless ground game, fueled by Kalel Mullings' decisive touchdown run, propelled the defending national champions to a 27-24 victory over USC in their Big Ten opener.

The Wolverines dominated the trenches, rushing for 290 yards, including a crucial 79-yard drive in the final minutes. Mullings, who carried the ball eight times on the winning drive, broke through tackles for a 63-yard gain and capped the march with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Despite passing for only 32 yards – their fewest since 1987 – Michigan's physicality and determination proved too much for the Trojans. Mullings finished with a career-high 159 yards on 17 carries, scoring two touchdowns.


USC briefly took the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Michigan's offensive line and Mullings delivered when it mattered most. Orji, who replaced Davis Warren at quarterback, added a rushing dimension to the offense, contributing 43 yards on the ground.
